Research interest
“Whatever befalls the Earth befalls us all”, said Chief Seattle of the Suquamish and Duwamish tribe. It is not at all possible to succeed in pursuing sustainable development without engineering integrated solutions through these important pillars of livelihood; the environment, society and economy. This rationale dictates the line of research work I have done over the years.
I have contributed to the following:
Declaration of a Ramsar site (Bwabwata – Okavango), with a research project titled: The potential of the lower Okavango river section in Namibia as a Ramsar site.
Screening and scoping of the potential impacts of uranium mining and exploration in the central Namib; research project titled: A comparison of lizard diversity between disturbed and undisturbed areas within the gravel plains at Gobabeb.
Rossing Biodiversity Survey, through the Environmental Evaluation Associates of Namibia (EEAN), where I focussed on reptiles.
Planning and implementation of community-based natural resources management projects in the Succulent Karoo biome (a biodiversity hotspot), facilitated through consultative workshops.
Proclamation of the Tsau //Khaeb (Sperrgebiet) National Park through Succulent Karoo Ecosystem Project (SKEP).
Planning and implementation of water and sanitation management projects in Skoonheid and Drimiopsis resettlement farms (Omaheke region) with a research projects titled: Water-related problems in Skoonheid resettlement farm in the Omaheke region, Namibia.
Water Consumption and Management Patterns in the Drimiopsis Resettlement Farm, Omaheke Region, Namibia.
Formulation and development of Integrated Regional Land-use Plan for Omaheke, through field ecosystem services assessment and participatory workshops.
Formulation and development of Integrated Water Resources Management Plan (IWRM) for Namibia.
Development of a Water and Solid Waste Management manual in Karas and Hardap regions
Information collection for the development of tool-kits on climate change adaptations (Oshana, Otjozondjupa, Kavango, Zambezi, Omaheke and Hardap regions).
