Welcome to the Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science at the Namibia University of Science and Technology.

The Department revolves around three main alliances of teaching and learning, research and community service. Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science are some of the emergent and imperative science fields for result based planning purposes and decision-making. These sciences assist in understanding the challenges of our modern socio-economic societies from markets to human populations.

The Department offers a lively environment for teaching, learning and researching in the areas of Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science. The department offers undergraduate as well as postgraduate programmes up to PhD level. The department is also providing institutional core and service courses in Mathematics and Statistics to all departments at the Namibia University of Science and Technology.

Mathematics and Statistics underlie the pillars and strength of science and technology. The department strives to balance deep research into applied topics such as applied mathematical modeling and real-life topics in statistical econometrics, etc.

These programmes add value to the technological needs of Namibia and beyond, and thus value interaction with students through teaching, learning and researching, as well as in outreach activities mostly in secondary schools.

The Department aims at providing internationally recognised Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science programmes and aims to become the first-choice tertiary numerate centre in the SADC region.
