Biography
Professor Edosa Omoregie is an accomplished Aquatic Biologist with over 35 years of experience in university management, teaching, and research. He received his PhD in Zoology from the University of Jos, Nigeria, in 1995 and went on to become a full Professor of Fisheries at the same institution in 2004. In 2018, he joined the University of Namibia as a Professor of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences and was appointed Director of the Sam Nujoma Marine and Coastal Resources Research Centre. Currently, he lectures and leads a research team on Marine Biology at the Department of Natural and Applied Sciences at the Namibia University of Science and Technology.
Prof. Omoregie has supervised over 100 students in research areas such as General Ecology, Aquatic Sciences, Fisheries, and Marine Biology, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. As Principal Investigator (PI) and co-investigator, Prof. Omoregie has been involved in numerous research initiatives. Some of his projects include Monitoring of ocean acidification along the Namibia continental shelve and its Impact on the Namibian oyster culture Industry, funded by Namibia National Commission of Research, Science and Technology (NCRST); Impacts of ocean warming and acidification on Namibia’s coastal fisheries and aquaculture, funded by South Africa National Research Foundation (NRF) and Namibia National Commission of Research, Science and Technology (NCRST); and Assessment of ecosystem health status and biodiversity of the Walvis Bay Lagoon, funded by the Namibia Ports Authority (NamPort).
